Artisanal Hawkes Bay Gamay Noir

This red grape of Beaujolais, not widely seen in New Zealand was fermented with wild yeast as whole clusters in an open topped fermenter. Often served chilled it is delicate and fragrant, bursting with ripe red fruits.

Tasting Notes

This is lighter styled red wine, showcasing red fruit and spice notes. Red currants, strawberries, dried herbs and a hint of wood spice make this a delicious and satisfying red wine, ideal for any occasion, whether that be on its own or with a wide variety of foods. Can be served chilled.

Food Pairing

Pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes and cuisines and can equally be enjoyed on its own. 

Vineyards and Winemaking

A small parcel of Gamay was hand picked from the Two Terraces Vineyard. It was fermented with wild yeasts as whole clusters in an open topped fermenter with light plunging in the pursuit of a light and fragrant wine. After a brief period of maceration the wine was pressed to two 300 litre french oak barriques where it aged on lees for 11 months. Just 60 cases were bottled.

Soils And Viticulture

This is a single vineyard wine, produced from fruit grown in the Two Terraces Vineyard in Mangatahi. Grown on a stony river terrace formed by the Ngaruroro River, this is a warm site with cool night time temperatures, ideal for growing an earlier ripening grape such as Gamay.
